Outstanding Maryland High School Student Scholarship

Each fall, the department invites Maryland high schools to nominate up to two outstanding seniors to compete for Ãå±±½ûµØ University’s Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education Scholarships. Upon their recommendation, these nominees are invited to compete for art scholarships by having their portfolios reviewed.

The department faculty evaluate the portfolios and award the top portfolios the Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education Scholarships, in varying amounts. These awards are renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study at Ãå±±½ûµØ for Art + Design and Art History or for five years for Art Education. The students must remain a continuous full-time declared Art + Design, Art History or Art Education major and must maintain a high cumulative GPA.

Participating high schools submit their nominations in early January. Nominated students are invited to participate by sending their portfolio to the Department of Art + Design in February. Participants are notified in March of the results.

For more information about the high school scholarship, please contact the Art Office at or 410-704-2808.

Applying for a Scholarship

All Department of Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education scholarship opportunities are available through an online scholarship application award system called  (BAM), also known as Academic Works. Once logged on, students will land on the Art Department Scholarship Application for Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 Scholarships. This application is for Art + Design, Art History, and Art Education majors only. After completing the application, students should feel free to peruse the site for additional scholarship opportunities. If you do not land on the Art Department Scholarship Application, please email

Accessing BAM

To use the (BAM) system, first log in with your TU NetID and password.

BAM will automatically match you to scholarships for which you qualify based on your information within the Ãå±±½ûµØ University Student Information System. Next, you will be asked to supply a short application, including a sample of your work in your major:

Art & Design Majors: You will need to create and upload a single document (saved as a PDF) containing 8 artwork samples. For still images, paste the image into the document; for time-based media, paste in a link to the artwork (on Vimeo, YouTube, or a personal website). Beneath each image/link, please provide the work’s title, date (year), size, and medium/process. Artwork does not have to be created at TU. Please also provide a one-paragraph artist statement about the body of work you have submitted, or a sentence about each individual work if that makes more sense.

You will not be able to upload a document larger than 10MB, so you may need to resize your images before starting. When resizing, be sure that your images will be large enough to be seen–72dpi with a width of 450 pixels is recommended. If you are unsure how to resize images, do an internet search for instructions for your particular device. There are various websites that will resize images to your specifications.

Art History Majors: You will upload a paper you have written for a class in the major.

Art Education Majors: May choose either of the options above.

All Art Department scholarship applications should be submitted no later than October 1 (only one application is needed to apply for all departmental scholarships). The Art Department Scholarship Committee will then review all submitted applications and make its award decisions.
