Self-Led Community Engagement

The Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility has developed campus and community partnerships for the mutually beneficial exchange, exploration, and application of knowledge, information, and resources.

Self-led community engagement provides an opportunity for student groups to organize community visits with CESR-identified partners. These opportunities are not facilitated by students, and students are responsible for their own transportation.

Partner organizations include:  

 provides under-resourced communities with sports programming and helps local youth become complete athletes with strong bodies, minds, and spirits. 

 organizes The Baltimore Food for Health marketplace that provides an array of fresh, wholesome items, including vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs, and bread every Saturday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.  

gives young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices. Core content areas include work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

 works with volunteers to provide elementary school students with one-on-one reading support. 

The Hub aims to address the basic needs insecurity within the TU community by providing support for their immediate needs while also empowering them to become self-reliant and develop life skills. 

in Parkville and Druid Hill offer community-based food pantries, serving as many families as they can.  

The instructs individuals on planting, growing, and harvesting in an urban setting. Utilizing the outdoors as a setting for effective learning about plants through hands-on activities, participants can discover the origins of their food and how it is cultivated.  

Students looking for more structured engagement can explore peer-led or semester-long opportunities.
