The provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs outside the U.S. The program operates in more than 140 countries worldwide and awards grants in nearly all fields and disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, STEM fields, and creative and performing arts.
During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others鈥 viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.
Applications for the 2026-2027 competition are due October 14, 2025. Grant recipients will carry out their projects abroad beginning in late summer/early fall 2026. To apply for the 2026-2027 competition through TU follow the timeline below. Students who fail to meet the deadlines indicated may be required to apply 'at large' without the endorsement of the campus committee.

See the section on the Fulbright website before you begin. Research which type of grant and which country you will apply to. All students and alumni must schedule an appointment with Prepare the first drafts of your Short Answers (Fulbright Mission, Host Country Engagement, and Career Plans); your abstract; and your Statement of Grant Purpose (SGP) Alumni will submit assignments via email to fbotkin AT_TOWSON Schedule regular bi-monthly Fulbright update meetings with the , Dr. Fran Botkin. The Fulbright online application portal opens in early April. Re-confirm if country specific information is accurate. Review the and create an . Identify three people to write letters of recommendation, and (after they confirm), upload their information to the Fulbright website. Students requiring language evaluations must request them from the instructors that taught them. Students who took their language courses elsewhere or need to find a language evaluator must notify the assistant director of OCFA, Dr. Botkin immediately or before April 1, 2026 by submitting this Research/Study grant applicants make contacts in the host destination for the letter

By July 15th all students MUST have draft 1 of complete application reviewed by Dr. Botkin Remind your referees and language evaluators to submit your recommendations in the online system by July 31st. Keep revising your Statement of Grant Purpose and Short essays based on the feedback. Complete the application online on the IIE site and submit the complete application for campus review process (you will 鈥渓ock鈥 the application, but DO NOT SUBMIT) Stay in contact with your Fulbright faculty advisor is you are assigned one for your porject, and provide updates to Dr. Botkin. |

Feedback meetings will continue as needed. Revise your Statement of Grant Purpose and Personal Statement based on the feedback from Drs. Devadas and Botkin. Stay in contact with Dr. Botkin and provide updates. |
September 2026 |
Make final revisions to all components of your application based on your feedback session. Check for typos鈥攎isspellings, capitalization errors, grammatical mistakes, etc with the Writing center. Check that your application is complete and work towards submitting. Note: you need to check for country and award-specific guidelines in addition to general guidelines. Preview the complete application in the Fulbright online application system by going to the Review page. |
